DLINQ
While at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, I designed several different websites for internal communications. One such site was for the newly created office of Digital Learning and Inquiry (DLINQ).
The purpose of this site was to share information from DLINQ out to the broader community, as well as to be a thought leader for other academic institutions when it came to thinking critically about online spaces. It also needed to define the different physical and online spaces that were available to students across the institution—and differentiate the campuses located in Vermont versus those located in California.
As it was a brand new office that merged colleagues across the US, it was important to be clear about who worked where, but also to broaden access to everyone. So another requirement was to be able to book in-person or online appointments with full-time staff and part-time graduate assistant staff who had a variety of technical specialties.
I was the main creator and project lead for the site, and while I had input from many colleagues, the final decisions were mine. I created a WordPress site with the standard Blog, About, and Contact pages, and also utilized an integration with a site called SimplyBook.me, in order to accept appointments. I included a newsletter sign-up for our weekly enewsletter, and also added quick links for students who came to the site looking for information from other departments that were often confused with our own.
When the site was finished, it was immediately put into use with a regular blog posting schedule and daily bookings with students and staff.
